NASAL SCRAPING®

Nasal Scraping is a single-use CE-marked device intended for use by qualified medical personnel.

The Nasal Scrapingdevice allows, after removing excess secretions, for the collection of a sample of cells from the outermost layer of the nasal mucosa. The sample is then used for subsequent cytological analysis, causing minimal discomfort to the patient.

The nasal cytology sampling

Without any form of anesthesia, a mucosal sample is collected by applying light pressure with this curette to the second portion of the inferior turbinate, inside the nasal cavity.


Scientific studies

In a recent study(Eur Arch Otorhinolaryngol. 2021;10.1007/s00405-021-07044-5)  doi:10.1007/s00405-021-07044-5), nasal cytology was performed using nasal scraping to identify true-negative patients with non-allergic rhinitis with an accuracy of 70%.

In another study (Rhinology. September 1, 2017;55(3):242-250. doi: 10.4193/Rhin16.287), a microscopic evaluation of nasal cytotypes was performed, and the device’s tolerability was tested.

The data thus revealed significantly higher diagnostic accuracy in terms of reliability and cell count compared to other sampling devices , and its use is also recommended inpediatric clinical practice.
